OUR ALPACAS HAVE GONE TO BROOKFIELD ALPACAS SO THAT THEIR GRASS REGROWS. THEY ARE DUE BACK EARLY JUNE.

WHAT IS ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY?

Animal Assisted Therapy is the use of animals to provide activities, fun, exercises and education for children using animals. Alpacas have a luxurious coat of wool and are very therapeutic to stroke, comb and feed. Alpacas are trained to walk, and this is not only a fun experience, but also a good confidence building exercise – learning how to handle these amazing creatures. Education and fun go hand in hand – children can learn all about alpacas, south america and of course maracas. We also have a speech therapy session available using the book Jacqueline the Black Alpaca!
We offer sessions for groups or individual children who have disabilities, educational needs, illnesses or are children in care. Siblings and other family members are also welcome. We encourage families to participate in sessions together. We want to work closely with children’s charities, community programmes, schools and groups to deliver fun enjoyable Animal Assisted Therapy for several deserving children in the local Leeds area.
ADULT’S NEEDS
We also offer separate sessions for groups or individual adults with disabilities, illnesses, mental health disorders, educational needs, adults in care and carers of adults or children with needs.
We also offer sessions especially tailored for the elderly.

Alpaca Maraca, School Lane, Wike, Leeds, LS17 9PD
Our aim is to work closely with local Leeds charities, schools, community programs and families to provide fun Animal Assisted Therapy sessions where people can come and get up close to these loving, gentle and friendly alpacas. We want to provide fun, educational and interactive sessions where people can stroke, feed and even walk the alpacas.

Leeds Golf Centre, just a stone’s throw away from Alpaca Maraca, have kindly allowed us to use their toliet facilities and there are clinical hand washing gels available on site.
Alpaca activities will be individually tailored to each person’s needs and sitting down therapy can be arranged. Parents and carers are encouraged to join in! So get your maracas and Alpaca Maraca!

We are a member of SAFEchild and all volunteers who work with children and vunerable adults are CRB checked. We adhere to a health & safety and vunerable adult and child protection policies. As we are a small charity every penny we raise goes directly into the Alpaca Maraca project. Nobody gets paid. Because we currently raise less than 5,000 pounds a year we are not registered with the Charity Commission and therefore do not have a charity number. For further information on small charities please go to the Charity Commission website.
